Glorious Goodwood racing tips: Best bets and odds for day three
Thursday's Glorious Goodwood tips Marhaba Ghaiyyath (Goodwood, 13.20) – 0.5pt each-way @ 7/1 (Bet365) Coppull (Goodwood, 13.55) – 1pt win @ 10/3 (William Hill) Merchant (Goodwood, 14.30) - 1pt win @ 5/4 (Bet365) Whirl (Goodwood, 15.05) - 1pt win @ 11/8 (Bet365) Nad Alshiba Green (Goodwood, 15.45) – 0.5pt each-way @ 13/2 (Ladbrokes) Hey Tru Blue (Goodwood, 16.20) – 0.5pt each-way @ 6/1 (Bet365) Aylin (Goodwood, 16.55) – 1pt win @ 3/1 (Ladbrokes) Sea Force (Goodwood, 17.30) – 1pt win @ 7/1 (Betway) Coral Kincsem Handicap – 13.20 Goodwood After his close third at Royal Ascot, Best Secret will probably be all the rage here and, given that James Doyle rode his chief market rival, Marhaba Ghaiyyath when he went close at Newmarket last time, he'll have a good handle on their relative merits. However, he is also retained by Wathnan, who own the favourite and so he couldn't have chosen to stick with his Newmarket mount. Marhaba Ghaiyyath bypassed Royal Ascot and instead picked up a smaller race at Redcar but he should not be underestimated after that more recent effort on the July Course. He still looks pretty well treated off an official mark of 95 and he is going on for twice the price of the favourite. He looks well worth an each-way interest with solid odds on betting sites. Markel Richmond Stakes tips – 13.55 Goodwood We sided with Havana Hurricane last time out at Newbury and, agonisingly, he was 'done' on the line. Eve Johnson Houghton's colt is feared here but you couldn't help being very impressed with the effort of Coppull in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. Admittedly, he was more than three lengths adrift of the winner Gstaad that day but the winner looks something special and that still counts as very smart form. That was just a second start for Clive Cox's Bated Breath colt. He is open to plenty of improvement and should prove tough to beat. HKJC World Pool Gordon Stakes tips – 14.30 Goodwood He's not going to be much of a price on horse racing betting sites, but Merchant arrives seeking a hat-trick and is selected to complete that feat, after at decisive win at York and then an improved, career best effort to win the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot last time. Both those races were over 1m4f and on a sound surface and he looks likely to get the same conditions again. Cases can certainly be made for Rahiebb and Wimbledon Hawkeye but the big danger on the day could turn out to be Galveston, whose trainer Aidan O'Brien has won this race three times in the past decade. Qatar Nassau Stakes tips – 15.05 Goodwood Just five runners have been declared for the focal point on day three, the Group 1 Nassau Stakes but it could still provide us with one of the best races of the week between the four-year-old See The Fire and the three-year-old Whirl, a year her junior. The Aidan O'Brien-trained Whirl is well treated with her age allowance, based on official ratings compared to if this were a handicap. While that doesn't always go to form, it would be some performance for See The Fire to topple Whirl in this. The latter proved herself in Group 1 company when runner-up in the Oaks at Epsom last month. She then bettered that when returning to Ireland to take the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh, when dropped back to 1m2f. That's the trip for this contest and it suits both the selection and her chief rival, who thrashed her field in a York Group 2 in May, before being a good third behind Ombudsman in the Group 1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot. Arguably, she has the best single piece of form to go into this race with but Whirl looks to have 7lb in hand and is taken to score. This looks absolutely wide open with the Glorious Goodwood odds market opening at 7/1 the field and one of the many towards the head of it looks likely to go well. That runner is Nad Alshiba Green, who has not been out of the first three in four starts this season and is admirably consistent. Mick Appleby's filly won the third of those four starts, a 5f sprint at Notttingham with a bit in hand. Up 6lb for that, she showed improvement when she stepped up in grade at Sandown last time, producing a career best to finish a close second. That upward curve is a positive for her to bring to this contest and, although it looks ultra competitive, she looks an each-way player with 16 runners declared and therefore four places to play for. Phase Eight Nursery Handicap tips – 16.20 Goodwood Another hugely competitive contest where cases can be made for plenty of them and the one that interests us most is Hey Tru Blue. George Boughey's colt began his career with a promising second in a Leicester maiden (6f, good), which connections felt was good enough to earn him a tilt at the Royal Ascot's Group 2 Norfolk Stakes. An SP of 33/1 was probably a fair reflection of his chance there and he beat just two home when rushed off his hooves over 5f. Back in maiden company and over 6f at Doncaster, he won a maiden with a fair bit in hand last time and his pedigree suggests that there will be more to come now stepped up further in trip, to 7f. He looks a nice each-way play to small stakes. Tatler British EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes tips – 16.55 Goodwood Shocks are rare in this contest, with just one double-figure priced winner in the past decade, while seven of the last 10 favourites have obliged and there could be another this time too, in the shape of Aylin. Karl Burke's filly showed clear promise despite being beaten at odds-on on debut, when she just got collared late on and lost no caste in being beaten a short head. She's entitled to come on a fair bit for that effort and she is taken to see it through to the line this time. World Pool Bet With The Tote Handicap tips – 17.30 Goodwood Another race where many have chances, not least the favourite on betting apps, Organ, who arrives seeking a four-timer after back-to-back Haydock wins followed by a C&D success last time. Martyn Meade's gelding may still be ahead of the handicapper and it would be no surprise if he added another win. However, there was plenty to like about the recent Ascot run by Sea Force, who was a close third on his first start since being gelded. That was a step up on his Nottingham maiden win that had preceded it. He still looks potentially well treated from the same mark. William Haggas has his string in fine fettle and the addition of cheekpieces he might just keep him upwardly mobile. He looks capable of going close. LAY OF THE DAY Race 6 No.1 DWAYNE: Won a trial for new stable but this is his first run over 1300m. Form is over further. ROCKADEEL (4) is a four-year-old debutant by Dundeel. Had three trials in 2023 before a long break. Close second in her July 9 Gunnedah trial before coming from last to win her July 16 trial here. EMPRESS TSARINA (3) lost considerable ground when severely hampered at the start when seventh at Muswellbrook last start. Go on her three provincial placings before that. SHE'S SO FLY (5) is a first starter by Flying Artie. Third to Rockadeel in her trial here before leading all-the-way to win her July 23 Gosford trial by over four lengths. BET: ROCKADEEL (4) to win. SEE YOU THEN (8) debuted with a second to Straand Care here in January before a spell. Returned with a second to Rembroy at Tamworth before a long head second to Hellwithasmile there 11 days later. MAGURTZ (9) is a debutant by Tassort. Nice effort to beat Head Kahuna in his trial here before tracking the leader and running away to win his Beaumont heat. FLYING MOLLY (6) was good first-up from a long lay-off when third to Herman Said. Followed with a solid second to Nova Centauri. BET: SEE YOU THEN (8) to win. CHARLEROI (1) raced outside the leader buy was no match to Hooligan Tommy when runner-up as favourite in a Midway Bm68 at Gosford 12 days ago. STORM PARK (7) resumed with a sixth to Malabar over 1350m at Gosford before a closing fifth to Cash Me over 1500m at Hawkesbury. His maiden win was over 1600m and suited stepping up to 1700m. GREAT POINT (5) dops in grade after two runs in TAB Highways at Rosehill and Randwick. Winner at Tamworth before that. BET: CHARLEROI (1) to win. CHAMPAGNE TONIGHT (7) was spelled after a debut third at Cranbourne in October. Resumed from a spell for a new stable with a nose win from I'm Done over 1000m here. Missed the start by two lengths when a neck third at Moree last start. EDGE OF MIDNIGHT (4) resumed with a nose second to Manage The Cycle here on July 14. Is two from two second-up. ECHELON (6) placed once in nine starts in Victoria. Transferred to the Cavanough stable and scored a good win from Jagerschnitzel at Muswellbrook. Good chance again. BET: CHAMPAGNE TONIGHT (7) to win. GHAZNAVI (2) was unlucky two starts back after caught deep throughout from a wide gate when a nose second to Saint Philomena over 1400m at Mudgee. Stepped up to 1600m and was again wide before beating The Big Blue here. Drawn ideally and will give this a shake. PINDORAMA (11) tracked the leader before scoring a two length win from Mad Harry on debut here on June 23. Got well back from a wide draw before running home for third to Wild Sensation 18 days later. OCEANFRONT (5) will be improved by his first-up second at Tamworth. BET: GHAZNAVI (2) each-way. SMART BUY (9) was a little unlucky not to break her maiden second-up last campaign when a three-quarter length second to Tulipwood at Dubbo after being held-up on the turn. Again held-up when fourth over 1000m here first-up. EAGLETURN (2) was bumped near the 75m when third to Great Idea on debut at Tamworth and was promoted to second after a protest. Has claims. DWAYNE (1) steps out for a new stable off a Gosford trial win. Has provincial form from 1500m up to 1890m. BET: SMART BUY (9) each-way. SOLITARIO (2) resumed with a nice win from Star Prediction to break his maiden here before returning to win a Class 1 from Cresta Run. Raced wide without cover when a neck third to Ilovenews when shooting for a hat-trick in a Bm66. GIRRAWHEEN (5) was fifth to Solitario in the Class 1 first-up before dropping back to 1100m and beating My Boy Scout at Dubbo. SEBILLA (7) has been freshened since fading in a Highway Rosehill on June 14. Has claims on her third to Fiorsum Fred here three starts back. BET: SOLITARIO (2) to win. CRESTA RUN (6) came from near last and ran on strongly when a nose second to Solitario first-up. Raced a little keenly when runner-up to Wild Sensation here last start. ALL TOO WILD (12) resumed with a half-length second to Dashing Basics at Grafton on July 6. Followed up with a half-length second to Tonkatsu Goddess at Gosford. Her maiden win came third-up. Glorious Goodwood racing tips: Best bets and odds for day one
Tuesday's Glorious Goodwood tips Castle Cove (Goodwood, 13.20) – 1pt win @ 4/1 (William Hill) Zavateri (Goodwood, 13.55) – 0.5pt each-way @ 6/1 (Ladbrokes) Kinross (Goodwood, 14.30) – 0.5pt win @ 10/3 (William Hill) French Master (Goodwood, 15.05) – 0.5pt each-way @ 11/2 (Ladbrokes) Enchanting (Goodwood, 15.45) – 0.5pt each-way @ 14/1 (William Hill) Naval Light (Goodwood, 16.20) – 1pt win @ 13/8 (Bet365) Mahra's Love (Goodwood, 16.55) – 0.5pt each-way @ 6/1 (William Hill) Cinque Verde (Goodwood, 17.30) – 0.5pt each-way @ 11/1 (William Hill) Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap tips – 13.20 Goodwood Six of the last 10 winners of this tricky 1m2f handicap have come from double figure draws and the likely market leader on betting sites, Castle Cove, has that in his favour. The William Haggas-trained gelding showed ability when scoring at Leicester on debut last year. Comfortably held on his next two starts, he returned from a lengthy break to win going away off a hold-up ride at Chester last month. Both his wins have come with some ease in the ground but he should handle the forecast good going and an 8lb rise makes him look well treated now. He is unexposed and is taken to successfully follow up. Coral Vintage Stakes tips – 13.55 Goodwood The Coral Vintage Stakes looks like being a very informative Group 2 contest over 7f. Aidan O'Brien is responsible for the likely favourite, Dorset, who comes into this on the back of a maiden win at the Curragh last month. He should go well, as should Humidity, for the Andrew Balding/James Doyle combination. A number of other debut winners in the field make this a bit of a conundrum but I like the look of Zavateri, who is 2-2. His style of running suggests he will relish this step up in trip. Eve Johnson Houghton's colt is already proven in this grade, having won the Bahrain Stakes at Newmarket's July meeting, where he improved plenty for his debut success. He has a penalty to shoulder but looks capable of further improvement. Horse racing betting sites price him up at 6/1 to make his mark at Goodwood. HKJC World Pool Lennox Stakes tips – 14.30 Goodwood This looks tricky, with plenty of runners involved where some sort of case can be made and, at the same time, there can be some holes picked in their form. The award for consistency at this level would surely go to Kinross, and Ralph Beckett's eight-year-old gets the nod. He ran a blinder when runner-up in the Group 3 John Of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock on his reappearance. He should be spot on after that, acts on any ground and he is taken to add to his two previous wins in this race. Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes tips – 15.05 Goodwood The centrepiece on day one is this Group 1 contest for the stayers and some of the sport's greatest have lifted this prize. Aidan O'Brien saddles the pre-race favourite, Illinois, who finished second to Trawlerman in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot last month. His trainer said he didn't get a 'Cup preparation' for that event as he was being trained for shorter events, so it was an admirable effort and he looks a worthy market leader. Given that John and Thady Gosden trained the winner that day, they'll have a handle on how French Master compares and he steps up from Royal Ascot handicap success to the top table this time. That win was a career-best and he's earned his place in this field. An extra couple of furlongs looks a positive and he could emerge as a major player. A price of 11/2 on betting apps looks like good value for the French Master to triumph. Coral Golden Rewards Shaker Handicap tips – 15.45 Goodwood Another tough big field handicap on day one is this Class 2 contest over 5f. Even though this is a straight track, it does take a bit of knowing and those with course form adds a little extra confidence. Into that category comes the Andrew Balding-trained Enchanting. He's a standish dish here, having won three times over C&D and run well on other occasions. He steps up in class this time, so does have a little to prove in that respect but conditions won't be a problem and he looks capable of going close at a double figure price. British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes tips – 16.20 Goodwood There's plenty of promise in the line-up, not least Naval Light. Karl Burke's colt found just one too good on debut at Beverley and was pitched in at Group 2 level at Royal Ascot. He didn't improve his chances that day with a slow start and, as a consequence, could never really get into the race. However, he came home well to pick off half of the field. Pilot James Doyle will surely not let him suffer the same start twice and he looks capable of breaking his duck at the third attempt. Ridgeview Fillies' Handicap tips – 16.55 Goodwood An excellent effort by Dash Of Azure when fifth in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot has ensured the layers want to keep her onside and any value in her price has gone as a result. That's not the case with Mahra's Love, who comes here seeking a hat-trick after wins at Kempton (7f, AW) and more recently when making all at York (1m, good to firm). There was plenty to like about how she took that race by the scruff of the neck and comfortably accounted for the field. Her trainer, William Haggas, has his string in continued good form and she looks likely to continue on an upward curve, despite a 6lb rise. World Pool Bet With The Tote EBF Fillies' Handicap tips – 17.30 Goodwood The day one nightcap is another fillies' contest, this time over 6f. There looks to be a cracking each-way play here in Cinque Verde, who represents Tony Carroll. The daughter of Sioux Nation has had more success on all weather surfaces than turf but she has won on a sound surface, sees out 6f well and has been more consistent than many sprinters this calendar year. There are no secrets with her but she arrives on a competitive mark and looks capable of another big effort at a track where she's already been placed this season. Gilbert Gardiner's best bets and jockey to follow for Sandown-Hillside on Wednesday
Victorian form expert Gilbert Gardiner analyses Wednesday's eight-race card at Sandown-Hillside, presenting his best bets, jockey to follow and lay of the day.
